From Silk to Wood: A New Canvas for Tradition

During our visit to Sansai Studio in Kyoto, the Japanklyn Lab team explored how kata-yuzen techniques—originally perfected for silk kimono dyeing—are now adapted for wood. Guided by the wisdom of skilled shokunin (artisans), we witnessed how vibrant colors and intricate patterns are meticulously transferred to a new medium, preserving tradition while embracing innovation.
