Since the 1700s

Carrying the Spirit of “Jin”

Founded in the early 1700s, Yamamoto Jin Shoten carries a legacy rooted in the Confucian virtue of jin—compassion and kindness. Passed down through generations under the name Jinsaburō, our family has upheld this spirit for over 300 years.

From humble beginnings in Gifu, we began specializing in textiles in the late 19th century. In 1920, we opened our Kyoto store and later established our home in the historic Muromachi district, where our tradition continues today.

From Fabric to Form

From White Silk to Textile Design

After moving to Kyoto, Yamamoto Jin Shoten pioneered artificial silk (rayon) sales and thrived in the textile trade. By the 1950s, we shifted focus from plain fabrics to designing dyed textiles inspired by Kyoto’s rich cultural patterns.

Though materials and methods evolved, our dedication to the spirit of jin—kindness and integrity—remains central to our business.

Timeless tradition, joyful creations.
