“aidama” – Prayer Beads in Japan’s Traditional Indigo
To bring this piece to life, we sought out the finest traditional indigo dyeing methods and discovered the masterful work of AWAJI Ai LAND Project, renowned for providing indigo dyeing guidance for the NHK historical drama Seiten wo Tsuke.
Using their meticulously crafted “Sho-Aizome” (true indigo dyeing), we hand-dye natural mountain cherry wood beads and silk threads. Over time, the color and texture evolve, revealing the authentic character of indigo.
Each set of prayer beads is an original creation of KANBE Juzu, carefully crafted by skilled artisans from hand-selected materials.

Where Nature Meets Timeless Japanese Craft
Indigo-Dyed Mountain Cherry Wood Juzu
An exclusive creation of KANBE Juzu, these prayer beads are crafted from natural mountain cherry wood and hand-dyed with true indigo.
Their deep hue, known as Kachi-iro (“the color of victory”), is achieved only through the traditional Sho-Aizome method using naturally fermented Japanese indigo. Over time, the beads gain a soft luster, revealing the timeless beauty of indigo.

To Highlight the Beauty of the Juzu
The Finest Indigo-Dyed Silk Thread
Men’s beads feature deep, authentic indigo silk that develops character over time. Women’s beads use a pale, delicate indigo to highlight elegance and feminine charm.
Dyed with natural materials by skilled artisans, the silk threads are perfected to beautifully complement each bead.

We are committed to preserving authentic dyeing traditions — no chemicals are used. Instead, each bead is dyed with naturally fermented Japanese indigo, a process that brings out a deep, rich hue known in Japan as “Kachi-iro”.Kachi-iro carries a special meaning: kachi means “victory” in Japanese, making it a historically auspicious color, often used for celebratory attire to bring good fortune.Over time, you will notice the bracelet’s color and texture evolving, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of indigo’s natural patina as it becomes uniquely yours.
